San Jose (CA) - Sony today announced the first of its second generation internal Blu-ray Disc writers for PCs, allowing BD burning of up to 4x.
The BWU-200S model can burn a full 50 GB BD-R disc in around 45 minutes, half the time it took on first-generation drives according to Sony. The drive also contains Cyberlink BD burning software, which allows for capture of native 1080i HDV video.
The burner can write to BD-R and BD-RE discs, as well as all forms of DVD+ discs, and blank CDs. It has a 5.25-inch form factor, which is standard for installation inside a desktop PC.
The 200S can burn DVDs at a speed of up to 16x, and is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista. It also has integration with Adobe's line of high-end HD video editing software.
It will be available some time in November for around $600.
