Update: Skype service restored
Chicago (IL) - It took 50 hours of repairs: Skype this morning informed its users that the instant messenger and VoIP communication software is back online.
The news comes relatively shortly after the company was able to restore the sign-on capability for most of its users, which was confirmed on Friday at 7 pm EST – 32 hours after the company originally acknowledged the problem.
According to Skype, "a minority of users" still experienced problems throughout the night, but as of 6 am EST, the service is "back to normal" Skype wrote on its company blog.
Skype representatives said that the company will provide "a more detailed explanation of what happened" on Monday.
