Skype and Symantec partner up to offer online security
Culver City (CA) - Skype and Symantec have partnered up to offer Norton Internet Security and other security products. The products have been "Skype Certified" and will be available through Skype's website at a "special promotion" price.
Kurt Sauer, Skype's chief security officer says, "Skype and Symantec's mutual commitment to security reinforces our pledge to ensure all users can have the necessary protection to keep their home and business IT environments safe."
Northon Internet Security includes a virus scanner along with an anti-phishing application which could help Skype users. Enterprise IT administrators often have headaches with Skype communications because files and hyperlinks can be sent through Skype chat sessions which bypass corporate firewalls. An extra client based security suite could add some need protection.
No specific pricing has been announced and as of Feb 7th 2007 the security products are not yet up on Skype's webpage.
