Sandisk and Sony introduce Memory Stick "Pro-HG" format

  • SanDisk and Sony think we need another flash format and are introducing the Memory Stick "Pro-HG" card. The cards are a faster and bigger version of the Memory Stick Pro cards and can transfer up to 60 MB/s while having a capacity of up to 32 GB.

Both companies say the new card was necessary to meet the demands of digital entertainment content. The minimum transfer speed is 15 MB/s which should still be good enough for real-time recording of HD video and high-resolution images.

Sony is saying that Pro-HG card readers will also read older Memory Stick Pro cards. In addition, older Memory Stick Pro readers and devices can use the new cards, although at a reduced transfer rate.
