Microsoft today announced the first public beta of Forefront Security for Office Share Point Server 2007 and Windows Share Point Services 3.0. The Forefront software is based on "Antigen" for Share Point Server, a security solution acquired by Microsoft as part of the acquisition of Sybari Software in 2005.

According to Microsoft, Forefront Security uses "multiple antivirus engines from leading security providers to protect against viruses, unwanted files and inappropriate content." The beta download offered integrates Microsoft's own "Antivirus" engine, but can support up to four additional engines.

Microsoft said that the commercial version of the software will become available in early 2007. The company previously released a beta of Forefront for Exchange Server.
