Mobile phone gamers value price and familiarity - report

  • Telephia, a mobile market research firm, has released a report which states the majority of mobile phone gamers base their purchases on price and familiarity. Low prices and free trials entice 59% and 48% of people to buy games, while 43% buy games that they know from consoles or PCs.

"Familiarity with titles through other gaming platforms, such as PCs and consoles, is a key purchase driver for consumers, as well as price and free trial offers," says Telephia.

Interestingly enough, a very small percentage of people based their purchase decisions on reviews and published articles. Only 8% purchased games based on consumer reviews, while 7% purchased games based on expert reviews. A paltry 5% purchased the games based on published recommendations.
