Lexar recalls hot flash drives

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Lexar have issued a recall of about 66,000 flash drives. According to the recall statement, the models Jumpdrive Firefly and 1GB Secure II can overheat and pose a risk of "burns [...] and property damage." The affected Firefly drives were sold in the U.S. between April and May 2006 for retail prices ranging from $30 to $110. The recalled Jumpdrive Secure II 1GB was sold only through Fry's Electronics stores in May 2006 for about $80.

The CPSC advised consumers who purchased one of the affected drives to stop using the recalled products and contact Lexar to order a free replacement product.
