United Airlines finally offers mobile boarding pass

Following the example that numerous other airlines have set for months or even years, United Airlines announced that it too now offers mobile boarding passes and paperless boarding.

Passengers traveling on United from anywhere in the US, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands can now check in at mobile.united.com and receive a virtual boarding pass on their phone that can be used at security checkpoints for select airports.

Other carriers like American Airlines, Continental Airlines, and Delta Airlines all have established mobile boarding infrastructures in place. United is one of the last to join the pack.

Airports that are immediately compatible with United’s paperless boarding system include Chicago O’Hare, Denver, LAX, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, Dallas Fort Worth, Las Vegas, LaGuardia, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland Oregon, and Seattle. Other airports are currently in the process of upgrading their security systems appropriately.

“Mobile check-in and paperless boarding give our customers more choice and control over their travel experience,” said Cindy Szadokierski, a United VP who oversees airport operations as well as the United Express division.
