Mad Max delayed again

After a rather extended rain delay, Mad Max will begin filming again in about 6 months. Well, maybe.

According to Tom Hardy, the two upcoming Mad Max films will start shooting in April 2012.

The cast and crew – which planned to shoot both new films simultaneously – was originally scheduled to kick things off earlier this year.

However, when they arrived on the first day in the arid wastelandish desert around Broken Hills, New South Wales, Australia, the rains started.

Eventually, the team decided to temporarily put off the shooting and resume in January.

“We’ve built the vehicles. We’ve designed the movie. The principal cast is locked in. The film is funded. It has been for 18 months now. It’s all ready to go. We just wait,” said director George Miller.

“The week we were to start, it rained the heaviest it had in 10 years. I’ll never forget the first day – we were holed up in a big sort of shed watching the rain. We couldn’t shoot.”

Recently, however, Miller went back to scout out the area, and decided that the heavy rains last year have made the landscape less arid than he wants, so he pulled out of the contract to shoot in that location.

This greatly disappointing the town, which was looking forward to the massive amounts of money the film shoot would have brought to their community.

“This decision hasn’t been taken lightly by KMM… but nature’s caused it, nothing else has caused it apart from nature.” said Wincen Cuy, mayor of Broken Hill.

“What we’re saying is that… from a community’s point of view, and from trying to take Broken Hill into the future, yeah it is disappointing.”

The above-mentioned confirmation from Tom Hardy at a press conference for another film, the soon-to-be-released Warrior, indicates that a time-table has been reconstructed, even if a new location has not yet been found.

“We’re going to have to find somewhere else to shoot it, but it looks like it’s going in April,” he said in response to a question from the press.

Mad: Max Fury Road and Mad Max: Furiosa star Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. No release date has been announced for either film.
