Job prospects in IT improving

CIOs expect an uptick in hiring during the second quarter of 2010. It’s raining marshmallows.

According to a research report from Robert Half Technology, we can expect a net 5% in hiring in IT this coming quarter. The IT Hiring Index and Skills Report is based on telephone interviews with more than 1,400 CIOs from companies across the United States with 100 or more employees. An astonishing 80% of technology executives are confident in their companies’ prospects for growth in the second quarter. This marks the second straight quarter in which hiring is expected to be on the up.

Additionally, 40% of the mostly well-fed suits said they are optimistic their companies will put money into new IT projects in the next three months. 45% said that finding good IT talent is challenging, and 31% said they’re worried about losing their best people.

As for which skills were most difficult to recruit:

  • 15% said networking
  • 12% security
  • 11% data/dB management

64% of the CIOs also said, network administration is the skill most in demand. Desktop support was a close second at 63%, followed by Windows administration at 61%.
