So the movie version of Need For Speed is about to be unleashed in the world, and finally the official reviews are in. The verdict?
We just reported on TGD that Need For Speed, the upcoming big screen game adaptation, will be converted to 3D. This was a last minute decision, because the movie’s coming out on March 14, and the timing has us wondering. Is the studio desperate? Are they hoping a 3D conversion will make more money overseas?
We at TGD are not totally sold on Need For Speed, but we’re going to be watching the movie’s progress because it’s a major video game adaptation, and we’re wondering if there will ever be a good video game movie down the road. We’re not sure Need For Speed is going to be it, but if the movie’s alright, it could be a start.
There’s a new era of video game movies coming, and we’re hoping they will turn the genre around, much like X-Men turned around the comic book film. We think there could be a great video game movie down the road, but we’re not sure Need For Speed’s going to be it.
One of the biggest disappointments in recent genre movie history was the sad saga of The Dark Tower. Several years ago it was going to be a three movie series at Universal with Javier Bardem in the lead, then it fell apart at the last second. Then it was set up at Warner Brothers, where it also stalled.
Where do we begin to catalog the horribleness of this concept. How about, Aaron Paul is not a leading man in any shape or form? Or, the trailer screams, Nooooo! Not another movie based on a video game with no plot? Epid fail predicted. Press play and unleash hell upon your eyes.
