Video: This EV supercar costs $980,000

In the world of electric cars, most vehicles like the Nissan Leaf are stodgy, unattractive boxes aimed at the thrifty driver.

Of course, there are some undeniably attractive electric vehicles out there, including Tesla. However, sexy electric vehicles that would raise the blood pressure of the average automotive enthusiast aren’t exactly  common.

But the Concept One EV supercar may be an exception. Yes, a Croatian manufacturer known as Rimac Automobili has is now accepting orders for its electric supercar.

The car is undeniably sexy with swoopy bodywork and fantastic overall design. The car is electric, uses four separate electric motors to drive each individual wheel, and offers very impressive performance.

One cool thing about electric vehicles – in general – is that the electric motors all have torque available immediately, rather than having to build up to a peak like with a traditional automobile. That makes for very impressive performance numbers in many instances.

Indeed, Rimac claims its electric supercar can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, and the top speed is said to be a cool 190 mph – world-class numbers for any sports car. The blistering performance comes courtesy of the fact that each of the wheels on the car has its own electric motor producing a combined 1088 hp and 2800 pound-feet of torque.

If you can keep the vehicle to sane speeds, the car is apparently capable of traveling 372 miles on a single charge, while the Concept One’s liquid cooled battery pack can store 92kWh of power.

As with all electric vehicles, the range will likely vary significantly – depending on driving conditions and driving style. Rimac also mentions that the vehicle has new tires designed to help put the massive power and torque to the ground. Interested? Well, the car will cost you a cool $980,000. Due to its rather high price, only 88 vehicles are expected to roll out when production kicks off next year.
