Google+ app arrives on Apple's iPhone

  • Google has rolled out an iPhone app for its nascent Google+ social networking platform.

Available for iOS 4 and above, the app works with the iPhone 3G/3S and iPhone 4.

Announced by Google's Vic Gundotra, the iPhone Google+ app will be joining its mobile Android counterpart, which has already racked up an impressive amounts of downloads (listed at 1,000,000 - 5,000,000 installs).

As expected, the iPhone friendly version of Google+ isn't all that different from the standard desktop iteration, but does offer:

    * Optimized support for blocking unwanted messages in Huddle.
    * Improved support for attaching photos to a post.
    * Various bug fixes and performance improvements.

It remains unclear if Google+ - which launched on June 28th and is still officially in beta mode - will be capable of posing a clear and present danger to Facebook.

Nevertheless, Google+ seems to be holding its own, as it has already managed to attract over 10 million active users.

Interestingly enough, recent reports seem to indicate that Mountain View plans on expanding its Google+ user base by luring celebrities and their accompanying fans to the rapidly expanding social networking site.

"They [definitely] seemed to be very interested in having celebrities," said Brett Schulte, a Hollywood consultant and organizer of social-media gatherings known as Tweet House.
