The company is expected to demo its new platform next week at NAB 2010 in Las Vegas.

Microsoft preps Silverlight SoC demo for NAB 2010Microsoft spokesperson Scott Guthrie explained the SoC version of Silverlight will allow providers to deliver high-definition programming and content to the living room.

"[The platform includes] all the benefits of Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming, such as adaptive bitrate streaming over standard Internet connections, DVR-like capabilities, and support for Microsoft PlayReady digital rights management, on Broadcom BCM7420- and Intel CE4100-based devices for the connected home," said Guthrie.

"A single Silverlight platform means that developers and content owners can develop one experience that can be consumed across a multitude of devices. Our vision is to bring Silverlight to every screen."

Microsoft also confirmed a number of other products to be unveiled at NAB 2010, including the next version of its IIS Media Services, IIS Smooth Streaming Client 1.0, IIS Smooth Streaming Format SDK 1.0 and IIS Smooth Streaming Porting Kit 1.0.ir.

Finally, the Redmond-based company is expected to debut one of the first demonstrations of live high-definition content in 3D using IIS Smooth Streaming and Silverlight.
