Android Jelly Bean overshadows Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)

The latest statistics breaking down Mountain View’s Android market share are in, and yes, Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2 has finally managed to surpass Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) in the percentage of installs on Android devices accessing Google’s  Play store.

However, while Jelly Bean may have finally exceeded its predecessor, an older version of Android – Gingerbread (2.3) – is still the most common iteration of the popular mobile OS installed on any Android device that accesses the Google Play store.

Indeed, Gingerbread claims 38.5% (down from 39.8%) of the Android market, Jelly Bean 28.4% and Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 27.5%.

Meanwhile, Android Froyo weighs in at 3.7%, Eclair at 1.7% and Doughnut at a scant 0.1%. It is probably worth noting that the growth of Jelly Bean will certainly boosted by the launch of  Samsung’s long-awaited Galaxy S 4 and the HTC One.
