Splashtop remote desktop app upgraded for iOS, Android tablets

Splashtop is probably one the most popular remote desktop apps on the mobile market today.

The company behind the software recently announced new additions to its Splashtop 2 app for the iPad and Android tablets (the latter of which supports Google Play), including configurable shortcuts and gamepad add-ons.

Indeed, the newly coded add-on allows tablet owners to customize their mobile experience with keyboard shortcuts, virtual joysticks and mouse controls – facilitating seamless remote interaction with both Mac and Windows computers. The software is being previewed at MacWorld 2013, and users can purchase the Splashtop 2 update from within the app itself.

“Over 12 million people already appreciate superior remote access performance with Splashtop 2 and Splashtop for Business,” said Splashtop president Mark Lee.

“With the Configurable Shortcuts & Gamepad add-on, we’re not only bridging any device, anywhere, but also enabling users to customize the way they access and interact with their favorite apps, entertainment and data – creating even greater convenience.”

Using the new features, users can create virtual shortcuts that will be displayed on screen for the most frequently used functions. The software also offers default profiles for popular applications such as Microsoft Office, Media Player, QuickTime, web browsers, and key OS X features. Plus, the software includes built-in game profiles for Diablo III, Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 and others.

The Configurable Shortcuts & Gamepad add-on for Splashtop 2 is available for $.99 per month or $9.99 per year. The add-on is purchased directly from within the app as an in-app purchase. Those fees are obviously on top of the monthly charge for Splashtop 2.
