Google tweaks Snapseed for Android

A growing number of smartphone owners are choosing to use their handsets as the primary camera of choice. And why not?

There are more than just a few smartphones on the market capable of capturing pictures in relatively high quality. Plus, images snapped on a smartphone can be easily filtered with effects via Instagram or other platforms, and can also be instantly uploaded to social networks like Facebook.

Still, if you’re the type who that likes to tweak photographs after they’ve beeen taken, you’ll be glad to hear that Android devices now have a new photo editing suite to choose from called Snapseed. As you may recall, Snapseed was purchased by none other than Google in September of this year.

The best part about the Android launch? The app is now free and  features Google+ integration for easy photo sharing. The app is also available for iOS devices and is available without charge for Apple’s mobile lineup as well.

Snapseed is based on Nik Software’s professional-grade imaging tools and boasts an intuitive gesture-based user interface. According to Engadget, the app falls somewhere between Instagram and Photoshop Touch, at least in terms of features and usability.

Indeed, PC World confirms most of the edits can be performed via a simple swipe of the finger and undone just as easily. The controls map are said to be easy to use on smartphone, but the app is probably best suited to a 7-inch or 10-inch tablet screen. You can download the app on the App Store or Google Play right now.
