Anonymous prepares for a dystopian future

Cyber activists associated with Anonymous are gearing up for a dystopian future characterized by growing economic disparity, protests and police brutality.

Indeed, the collective has published several instruction manuals on various topics, including a street medic primer and survival guide for citizens in a revolution.

Both texts were heavily promoted by Anonymous on Twitter and various forums last night when law enforcement officials fired a number of tear gas canisters, concussion grenades, rubber bullets and non-lethal rounds at OccupyOakland protestors in California.

The demonstrators took to the streets the day after city officials destroyed an encampment outside city hall that had been established to show solidarity with the growing OccupyWallStreet movement.

Despite the growing controversy, interim Oakland police chief Howard Jordan claimed firing tear gas at civilians was completely justified, as it was "necessary to protect our officers."

Over 102 people were arrested on Tuesday evening, with the majority of detainees held on $10,000 bail - an obviously excessive amount which authorities hope will deter citizens from attending future demonstrations.

But Gabe Meyers, a protester who had camped out at city hall before the tent city was destroyed, told the San Francisco Chronicle demonstrators would keep on coming back in an effort to reclaim the public space.

“What are they going to do, send cops in every night and waste taxpayer dollars?

"The cops are the 99 percent, but they're doing the work of the 1 percent. Wall Street is proud of them every time they clear out an encampment."
