US Air Force recruits 70 bomb-busting ‘bots

  • The US Air Force is recruiting 70 Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles (SUGV) to help airmen dispose of lethal explosive ordnance in the field.

The SUGV - manufactured by iRobot and Boeing - is designed to provide troops with real-time awareness of critical situations, while allowing them to complete missions from safe "standoff" distances.

Indeed, the combat hardened SUGV has already proven its worth on today’s fast-paced battlefield.

"The SUGV is ideal for a variety of mission types, including EOD, route clearance and reconnaissance," explained iRobot rep Robert Moses.

"[But beyond that], the military is [constantly] finding new ways to implement this game-changing technology - all in an effort to increase mission success and keep warfighters safe.”
