Chattanooga (TN) - A federal grand jury in Chattanooga Tennessee has ended its session without handing down an indictment against the alleged email hacker who broke into Sarah Palin’s account.  David Kernell, a 20-year-old student at the University of Tennessee and son of a state Democratic representative, is believed to have illegally accessed the Republican Vice Presidential nominee’s Yahoo account by answering personal questions and resetting the password.

Three students were interviewed by the grand jury on Tuesday but the jury ended its session without making a decision.  However the case is far from over and Laura Sweeney, a spokesperson for the US Department of Justice, told a local paper , “the government inquiry into this matter is ongoing”.

On Sunday, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Mr. Kerrnell’s Fort Sanders apartment residence.   According to media reports, Kernell and two friends fled the scene as agents arrived. The agents asked everyone inside to leave and spent approximately 2 hours in the apartment photographing evidence.

FBI and Secret Service agents tracked down Kernell after examining proxy server logs that he allegedly used to mask his trail.  Late last week, we wrote that these logs contained IP addresses, timestamps and URLs.  The owner of the ctunnel.com proxy server, Gabriel Ramuglia, has told various media outlets that the hacker misused his service and that he is cooperating with authorities.
