Redmond (WA) - Yesterday’s media reports of a million Zune’s sold are proving to be a bit premature. Several major gadget blogs and even we at TG Daily reported that Microsoft has exceeded expectations by selling over a million units of its Zune media player. Well if you listen to the actual interview done by the San Francisco Chronicle, you will learn that Microsoft’s Robbie Bach actually meant that it will sell one million players.
You can listen to the Chronicle’s Podcast here. Microsoft’s Zune has been on the market for about six months and was launched on November 14th 2006. Bach is Microsoft’s President of the Entertainment and Devices Division and actually said that the company will have sold a “little over a million” Zunes by the end of the fiscal year, which for Microsoft ends in June.
Of course sales figures are usually a bit murky because there is a difference between sales to retailers and sales to customers. In our trips to local retail stores, we often see customers only taking a mild interest to the players that are waiting on store shelves.
