NBC to enter mobile video market
New York (NY) - NBC Universal has become the latest network to announce that it will begin offering specific programming to mobile phone users.
Through a partnership with MobiTV, which is the main provider for mobile video on Sprint, NBC will offer downloads of shows like The Office and Heroes for around $2 each.
NBC Universal's cable channels will also be included in the new MobiTV partnership. Programming from Bravo, Sci Fi Channel, USA Network, Telemundo, and Mun2 will be available to mobile users.
To combat its sinking TV ratings, NBC was the first broadcast TV network to offer its shows on iTunes. It also pioneered the idea of forming a partnership with YouTube.
NBC Universal's mobile videos are currently being implemented to supporting wireless service carriers.
