Hewlett-Packard (HP) plans to push sales of 13-inch class (13.0-13.9-inch) notebooks with 16:9 aspect ratio panels before the end of this year, making 13-inch models mainstream items for 2009, according to sources with Taiwan ODM notebook makers. The shift to 13-inch models will postpone HP's planned fourth-quarter launch of 14.0-inch notebooks to the end of the first quarter of 2009, the sources indicated, noting that the planned launch of 14.0-inch models aims to take on competing models from rivals such as Acer and Lenovo.
