Report: Samsung's Galaxy S IV to boast eye-tracking tech
Anticipation is building for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S IV smartphone, which is slated to make its long-awaited debut later this month.
Earlier today, we reported on a possible spec list for the handset, and now the New York Times is reporting that the smartphone will boast a new feature known as "eye scrolling."
Indeed, according to the Times, the device is designed to precisely track a user’s eyes to determine where to scroll. Meaning, when a user reads articles and their eyes reach the bottom of the page, the software will automatically scroll down to display the next paragraphs of text.
Although Kevin Packingham, Samsung’s chief product officer, declined to divulge details about Samsung’s next phone, he did emphasize that the Galaxy S IV would be an "amazing phone," both in terms of hardware and software.
It should be noted that Samsung's current flagship Galaxy S III is loaded with a feature - Smart Stay - that monitors users with a front-facing camera to determine if the screen should remain lit instead of dimming automatically.
As TG Daily previously reported, rampant speculation regarding the handset's specs have continued unabated in recent weeks, although there are probably at least a few points that everyone can agree on.
According to recent (alleged) Antutu benchmark test results obtained by the PhoneArena team, at least one iteration of the Galaxy S4 is powered by Samsung's indigenously designed Exynos 5410 running at a cool 1.8GHz with a 4+4 core configuration.
The device is loaded with latest version of Android Jelly Bean (4.2), and may very well be a true "world" phone, rather than offering specific variants for each carrier.
"That assumption is being made based on the presence of a GSM/WCDMA/LTE network setting," the PhoneArena crew explained. "This is actually a similar approach to the iPhone."
Additional specs? A 13MP main camera, along with a 2.1MP front facing unit, 2GB of RAM and either 16 or 32GB of storage. The handset is also believed to boast a (HD) 4.99-inch 1920x1080 screen, along with GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
