Sharp wants to take on Samsung’s Galaxy S III

Sharp says its new 5-inch smartphone can go head-to-head with Samsung’s best.

Although the company may have some issues taking on Samsung’s flagship handset, the SH930W from Sharp does pack some pretty sweet specs, including a 5-inch 1080P display.

The device is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Additional specs? An 8 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front camera and Google Android Jelly Bean out of the box.

In addition to wanting to take on Samsung, Sharp also seems to determined to position itself as a serious mobile contender alongside LG, as you can see in the photo above.

However, as Phandroid’s Quentyn Kennemer points out, Sharp’s status as a global electronics giant probably won’t matter all that much with this particular phone, as it is expected to see only a limited release in Hong Kong and Russia, at least at this point.

Additional markets may follow, but don’t expect the handset to be hitting US shores any time soon.

Nevertheless, if the SH930W is even somewhat successful, Sharp will undoubtedly follow up with additional next-gen handsets and even wider availability.

In the meantime, we wish Sharp well in its quest to take on Samsung and LG. The more the merrier we say, at least when it comes to Android mobile devices and a competitive smartphone market.
