The $200 Asus Transformer alternative

Posted by Trent Nouveau

The latest Asus Transformer tablets offer the sweet convenience of a keyboard and extended battery life, but they do cost a pretty penny.

However, as with most new mobile tech these days, a cost effective alternative to the Transformer has hit the streets of China in the form of the Aocos PX102.

Priced at just $208 (in China), the device boasts some fairly respectable specs, including a 10.1 inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800, dual cameras and a detachable keyboard.

The tablet is powered by a 1.6Ghz dual-core Rockchip CPU paired with Mali-400 graphics, 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

Additional specs? Google Android 4.1, WiFi, A single 2.0 USB port, Micro USB port, HDMI out and a micro SD card reader. As expected, the detachable keyboard connects to the Aocos via Bluetooth.

As Liliputing's Brad Linder notes, the keyboard  - which serves double duty as as screen cover - is equipped with a rechargeable battery, although you can't use it to extend the tablet’s battery life the way you can with an Asus Transformer Pad.
