HTC Thunderbolt gets vanilla flavored ICS AOSP ROM

The talented folks over at XDA Devs have managed to code a vanilla flavored Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM for the HTC Thunderbolt.

As XDA’s PoorCollegeGuy notes, getting AOSP working on a device is typically something of a big deal.

Essentially, AOSP is vanilla Android at it sweetest, a stripped down version of Google’s mobile operating system without the bloat, flavor and skin imposed by a handset manufacturer.

For Thunderbolt owners, data has thus far been a difficult struggle with AOSP ports.

Fortunately, XDA senior member [SP]Jester and his team recently released an Ice Cream Sandwich AOSP ROM with data, call signal and MMS all intact – and fully functioning.

Nevertheless, there are still a few kinks that need to be ironed out, including an unresponsive camera, a dead Netflix app and a broken WiFi tether.

HTC’s 4G LTE Thunderbolt launched back in March of 2011.
