Get ready for a new lineup of Kindle Fire tablets

  • Amazon will reportedly unveil a new lineup of Kindle Fire tablets during a September 6 press conference in Santa Monica, California.

The popular Android-powered Fire currently boasts a sweet $199 price point, yet the online retailer is more than likely to lower the cost of its original device to a cool $149 as it prepares to roll out new tablets alongside a number of e-book readers.

According to DigiTimes, the new 7-inch Fire will feature a screen resolution of 1280x800 and a $199 price tag.
The original Kindle Fire may be revamped as well, with "similar" specifications as the existing tablet, which is expected to target the entry-level segment and help expand the company's market share at the above-mentioned $149 price point.

In addition to 7-inch tablets, Amazon is reportedly working on 8.9-inch and 10.1-inch tablets models, although development of the 8.9-inch version was supposedly halted a few months ago. The 10.1-inch iteration, however, is slated to roll out during the fourth quarter of 2012 or the first quarter of 2013.

Meanwhile, Needham & Co. analyst Kerry Rice told Bloomberg he believes the Seattle-based corporation will debut a number of upgraded tablets in September, including one with a 10-inch screen.

"They'll be priced very competitively, at lower price points than most, if not all their competitors," he said.
