Acer rolls out uber-thin Ultrabook

Acer has rolled out the Aspire S5, an uber-thin Ultrabook weighing in at just 2.65 lbs and measuring .044 inches at its thinnest point.

As you can see in the photo, the S5 sports a curved Onyx Black chassis, with a cover rim wrapping around the system body like a protective shell.

The Ultrabook features a MagicFlip I/O port panel concealed just below the hinge that offers connectivity options for HDMI, USB 3.0 and 20 Gbps Thunderbolt.

The S5 – powered by a third-gen Intel Core i7 processor – features a 13.3-inch widescreen LED-backlit display (1366 x 768), 256GB SSD a 1.3 megapixel HD webcam (24 fps), Dolby Home Theater sound and instant on (in 1.5 seconds).

Battery life seems fairly average for the current Ultrabook class and form factor, offering up to 15 days of standby power, or up to 6.5 hours of continuous use.

In addition to debuting the Aspire S5, Acer also updated its first Ultrabook, the Aspire S3, with a third-gen Intel chip, SSD and a new champagne color scheme.

The Aspire S3 carries a base price of $648, scaling up to $1,000, while the Aspire S5 is priced at $1,400.
