Elusive PlayStation Phone gets previewed

  • The elusive Sony PlayStation Phone - henceforth known as the "Xperia Play" - has finally been captured and reviewed.

    According to Engadget's Richard Lai, the device runs Android Gingerbread and boasts a 4-inch multitouch 854 x 480 LCD, 512MB of RAM and a Qualcomm MSM8655 chipset that is as of yet unverified - due to (pending) teardown issues.

    In addition, the Xperia Play features an Adreno 205 GPU, along with a single-core processor that clocks in at 122.88MHz-1GHz.

    During benchmark tests, the Xperia Play scored an impressive 1,689 on Quadrant, 59fps on Neocore, 35 MFLOPS on Linpack and 43fps on NenaMark.

    Other notable specs include:

    • 5 megapixel camera.
    • No 720p video recording, set at 800 x 480.
    • PlayStation DualShock-style gamepad.
D-pad functions on Android (natively).
    • Can render 720p H.264 video clips.
    • AVI or MKV files NOT natively recognized.
    • Supports various emulators, including PS and Gameboy Advance.[[Playstation]]
