Asus wants to be an iPad killer

Asus is preparing to challenge Apple’s popular iPad with a slew of Windows and Android tablets.

According to DigiTimes, the upcoming x86 and ARM based devices will be available in a variety of form factors, including those with 7-, 10- and 12-inch displays.

The 12-inch, Wintel tablet will launch in January 2011, while two 7-inch models and two 9-inch iterations are expected to hit the streets in March 2011.



Asus wants to be an iPad killerOne of the 7-inch models has reportedly been tapped to offer support for Wi-Fi, while the other will feature 3G, along with basic phone functions.

At least one of the 9-inch tablets will be fitted with Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor and paired with Google’s Android operating system.

The other 9-inch tablet is likely to run Windows and feature an Intel chip. 


Meanwhile, Acer has also announced plans to launch multiple tablet devices at an event in NYC on November 23.

Although the specs, OS and form factors of the future tablets have yet to be confirmed, it is widely believed that the devices will be based primarily on two operating systems: Windows and Android.
