Verizon recently showcased its high-speed LTE wireless broadband service in Boston, with downstream speeds reportedly hitting up to 8.5 Mbps and upstream speeds clocking in at 2.8 Mbps.

Verizon claims it will be the "first" company in the US to launch LTE, starting with 25 to 30 markets in 2010 and covering its current 3G footprint by 2013.

"[We] plans on utilizing [our] nationwide swath of contiguous 700 MHz spectrum to deploy the LTE/4G network. The LTE network will co-exist and integrate with the current Evolution Data Optimized (EVDO) RevA network," explained Verizon.

"It will also support handover to existing mobile networks, thereby providing seamless coverage to Verizon Wireless subscribers from the time of its deployment."
