Bellevue (CA) – T-Mobile made its G1 Android phone available to customers earlier today and despite recent reports that the carrier has been overwhelmed by pre-orders there was sufficient supply available through online, phone orders as well as in T-Mobil stores. Depending on your preference plan and subscriber status, there are three different prices for the G1 – including the option to buy the device without a 2-year contract.

At the time of this writing there was plenty of supply of G1s in U.S. retail, even if T-Mobile’s website states the device is “extremely limited” in supply. All our attempts to purchase the first Android phone via phone, web and through local store in the Chicago suburbs were successful, despite reports that consumers were lining up in front of T-Mobile stores to purchase the phone.

However, demand is clearly higher than during any other regular phone launch, which means that you should buy this phone rather sooner or later, if you plan on purchasing it anyway.

If you are new to T-Mobile or are an existing T-Mobile customer without a fixed-term contract obligation, and if you agree to a 2-year contract with a voice and data plan (for a minimum of $55 per month), you can purchase the phone for $180. If you are a T-Mobile customer and are still bound to a fixed-term contract, you can upgrade to the G1 for $300 in exchange for a new 2-year agreement. Or, if you don’t want to agree to a 2-year service and want to buy the device outright, there is the option to purchase the device for $400 – which also gives you the option to choose the service you want, whether that is with or without data service.
