Cupertino (CA) - With only minutes to go before Apple unveils its new Mac notebooks at the Apple Town Hall on Apple's Cupertino campus, we receive last minute spyshots and information about Apple’s new notebooks. It appears Apple will not price the new MacBook at $899, but will continue selling the old 2.1 GHz white MacBook at a reduced $999 price point. Instead, the $899 product may be a new LED-lit 24-inch Cinema Display with MagSafe adapter and DisplayPort connector. The MacBook Pro is expected to integrate two Nvidia GPUs and there may be an iMac-like docking station that will turn the notebook into a desktop iMac computer.

The latest round of rumors arrives on top of leaks detailed in our rumor round-up story. We now know that the new Macbooks most likely feature an all-new aluminum design, manufactured from a single piece of aircraft-grade aluminum - using a new high-tech process code-named "Brick" that employs lasers and water-jet cutting. Processor, memory and hard drive upgrades are a no-brainer. Website 9 to 5 Mac claims that a glass trackpad will enable complex iPhone-like multi-touch gestures. Daring Fireball's John Gruber corroborated the claim, saying the glass trackpad "is a button itself" that clicks when pressed.

Digg's Kevin Rose cited “unreliable” sources who claim new Mac notebooks will feature Blu-ray drives, while PC Perspective's Ryan Shrout believes that Apple will switch to Nvidia chipsets with cutting-edge 3D and video decoding cores, advanced power saving and power management features. The Nvidia move was confirmed by AppleInsider, while TUAW claimed, citing "various sources," that Nvidia is already showcasing pre-production Apple notebook models within the company.

In the meantime, several new higher-quality images surfaced in China where the new MacBook and MacBook Pro shells seem to have become a new commodity. Eagle-eyed users who studied these images leaked by the MacX.cn blog have noticed that the MacBook casing lacks a FireWire port, which will surely disappoint prospective video editors looking for a cheap system for field edits. The FireWire port is available in the MacBook Pro casing images.

The MacBook Pro also appears to have an additional mysterious port covered by tape in a spyshot. The blogosphere believes it serves as a connection between the notebook and the rumored iMac-like docking station. As revealed in Apple's patent filing, the company is planning an iMac-shaped dock that will turn the notebook into a desktop iMac computer.

Images also reveal the new expansion port configuration. All ports are moved to the left side while the optical drive unit is positioned on the right side. The power button is located on the far top right corner and visibly larger trackpad area certainly adds weight to glass trackpad prediction. The bottom does not resemble the MacBook Air as originally thought, but there will be an elongated, latch-released battery. Users will be able to replace internal hard drive themselves without voiding the warranty, reports suggest.

The latest image published by Engadget comes via the same source that leaked the fourth-generation iPod nano spyshots. It shows what appears to be a full production MacBook Pro unit that bears striking similarity with previously leaked casing photos. AppleInsider believes the spy photo was taken, no more or less, during today's product briefing at the Apple Town Hall on Apple's Cupertino campus. The seemingly genuine image depicts a black border around the MacBook Pro's screen edges, like the iMac - further supporting the iMac docking station thesis.

Multiple sources report that Apple will significantly bump graphics specs of the new MacBook Pro. Engadget, AppleInsider and Daring Fireball claim the MacBook Pro will come with two Nvidia GPUs, one for normal battery and another for extra performance when the notebook is plugged into a power socket. The two chips will also combine to support Hybrid SLI. According to Daring Fireball, the MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air will run on the new Nvidia 9400M GPU, while the MacBook Pro will sport an additional 9600M GT GPU. MacBook Pro will come with glossy screen. AppleInsider heard that Apple might offer a higher-resolution display on the 15-inch MacBook Pro as a build-to-order option.

Daring Fireball's John Gruber canceled out previous analysts' estimate of sub-$1000 price point for the new MacBook, which was based on leaked price list from an Apple reseller. Gruber said the mysterious $899 product is actually a new 24-inch LED-lit Cinema Display code-named K29, with Display Port connector, MagSafe adapter, black bezel around screen edges and a thinner version of iMac stand.

However, he did note Apple will continue selling the 2.1G Hz white MacBook model at the reduced $999 price point. Furthermore, Gruber claims that the Apple new MacBooks will be priced at $1299 and $1499 (2 GHz CPU, 2 GB memory and 160 GB hard drive; 2.4 GHz, 2 GB memory and 250 GB hard drive, respectively) According to Gruber, the MacBook Air will also be available in 120 GB HDD and 128 GB SSD configurations.
