Nexus 5. On Google Play. KitKat. Delicious.

  • LG and Google are delivering the first Android 4.4, KitKat, phone. The Nexus 5 is going to be available in every color imaginable as long as they are either white or black.

It's going to have a 5-inch Full HD IPS display and come in both 16GB and 32GB versions. It boasts 445 ppi and its in-cell touch technology should make for faster touch recognition, better outdoor visibility and crisper images.

The camera in the Nexus 5 features LG Innotek’s image stabilizer technology, first introduced in the LG G2. It's an 8MP camera with longer exposures, less blur and less noise, according to its biggest fans, the makers, and it also includes Photo Sphere so you can capture a series of photos and turn them into a 360-degree panorama. The improved HDR+ mode in Nexus 5 can campture a burst of shots and applies computational photography to intelligently fuse these images together into one perfect photo with a greater range of shadows and light culled from the multiple exposure and color data.

“LG is proud to partner with Google again to develop the fastest, most powerful Nexus phone ever,” exultantly cried Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

The KitKat loving Nexus 5 is powered by, you guessed it, a Snapdragon 800 processor and is 4G/LTE capable. Google's real proud of Android 4.4, which should give you some more power and features than its predecessors. For instance, Caller ID by Google matches an incoming phone number to a business even if that number isn’t stored in the contact list. Users can send and receive text messages directly from Hangouts, and Hangouts for Android now supports location sharing.

Nexus 5 is available for purchase in either black or white, no contract required, on Google Play starting today in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, U.K., Australia, Korea and Japan. Offline availability in Europe, Central/South Americas, Asia, CIS and the Middle East will begin in mid-November. It's not shipping until November 8, and it looks like it may even sold out in some cases.

This is not the fanciest phone and it doesn't blow you away with Megapixel cameras and large screens, but it's a phone and for people who actually want to have a smartphone, as opposed to a status symbol, it's pretty solid, and KitKat is going to be delish. We can taste the success right now.
