HTC expounds on Ice Cream Sandwich plans

HTC fans will wake up today knowing whether or not their phone will be among the first handsets due to receive the latest and greatest Android update.

“HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades,” the company wrote on its official Facebook page.

The brand new HTC Vivid gets a jumpstart on most other phones; it is getting upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich as of right now. Several others are slated for an upgrade in “early 2012,” according to HTC. Those devices include:

– The Sensation

– The Sensation XL

– The Sensation XE

– The Rezound

– The Evo 3G

– The Evo Design 4G

– The Amaze 4G

This is not an exhaustive list of all HTC phones that will receive the update. The company said other handsets may be eligible as the months progress.

The manufacturer is being more cautious about upgrade promises after it failed to deliver on bold promises about the last major Android update.

“We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich,” HTC assured.
