Pre-orders for iPhone 4S reach capacity
If you still want to be able to get an iPhone 4S on launch day, you better be on Sprint and be willing to pay for the 32 GB model.
All other versions of Apple's latest and greatest iPhone have already been sold out. Verizon, AT&T, and Apple are all reporting no more availability for launch day pre-orders.
The phone will be available on October 14. The exhaustion of launch day units means multiple hundreds of thousands of units are accounted for, but Sprint still shows availability for the high-end 32 GB model.
Apple.com has replaced the wording on its iPhone 4S pre-order site from availability on October 14 to "Ships: 1-2 weeks." The other carrier websites have made similar product page adjustments.
AT&T has already called it "the most successful iPhone launch we've ever had."
Of course, running out of launch day units so quickly is hardly a surprise. But you have to wonder if the death of Steve Jobs helped catapult interest from Apple fans who would not necessarily have jumped on the newest gadget but wanted a piece of history after Jobs's passing.
It's unclear exactly how many units were made available for launch day, and what the breakdown was for each carrier, but clearly there can never be enough for the raging Apple fanboys out there.
If you didn't get a pre-order in, there's still a chance you can pick one up at a retail store on the 14th, but be prepared to camp out.
