Cinemax app brings porn to iPad

Premium cable channel Cinemax's heralded porn content is apparently a-ok with the people who confirm submitted iOS apps.

The cable company's Max Go app has just been approved for the iTunes App Store, and although it certainly has plenty of other movies and TV shows available for users to stream, there's a reason Cinemax got the nickname "Skinemax."

And it's certainly not like the app tried to skirt by the pornography issue. It has a bold warning at the outset, telling users it includes "frequent/intense sexual content or nudity." The warning says only users age 17 or older are allowed to use it, and there are parental controls available.

All the salacious content is put in the Max After Dark tab, which anyone who downloads the app will easily be able to find.

Curiously, Apple has the following restriction in its App Store submission guidelines:

"Apps containing pornographic material, defined by Webster's Dictionary as 'explicit descriptions or displays of sexual organs or activities intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings,' will be rejected."

Call us crazy, but it certainly seems like that would describe movies like The Hills Have Thighs and Bikini Jones, which are available in the Cinemax app.

This is sure to add fuel to the fire among developers who feel Apple gives preferential treatment to larger companies. For example, when it performed a massive purge of all apps that had any sort of nudity or provocative content, Apple had no hesitation about keeping the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue or the Playboy apps up and available for purchase.
