It wasn't that long ago that the vast majority of people didn't access the Internet at all with their cell phones. Now, you have statistics like this.

Google has announced that the number of videos streamed through mobile Youtube platforms is now consistently hitting more than 200 million every day.

This includes videos streamed through dedicated mobile apps on devices like Android phones and iPhones, as well as those accessed on Youtube.com's mobile website.

Mobile Youtube streaming hits 200 million videos/day"As the world goes mobile and more people watch videos on their smart phones, we expect more partners will take advantage of these new mobile advertising capabilities and make more of their content available across more devices," said Youtube product manager Andrey Doronichev in a post on the company's official blog.

The mobile apps carry some restrictions, like being unable to view select copyrighted videos that have been uploaded by the official copyright holders. Music videos uploaded under the "Vevo" label, for example, used to be excluded from Youtube mobile search results. However, that restriction was very recently lifted.

Vevo is a joint venture from some of the leading recording labels to bring their music to as many people as possible. Revenue is generated by ads that are occasionally forcibly played before the music video. Older versions of Youtube mobile apps were not configured to play these ads, but any Android phone running version 2.2 can now access them.
