Las Vegas (NV) - Yesterday, Asustek let slip a surprise. It's an S121 netbook with two unexpected additions; Windows 7 OS and a 512 GB SSD. Measuring 11.7 by 8.3 inches, and weighing 3 lbs, the netbook has a touchscreen running special software Asustek developed for "easy navigation."
Priced at $1,649 (due mostly to the huge SSD), the netbook may be out of reach for most of its market. However, it does indicate the direction technology is heading and what all of us should have standard in a few years for near-commodity prices.
Microsoft's OEM general marketing manager, David Fester, said "We're deeply partnered with Asustek on Windows 7," and that the netbook will be available in about a month, though "it probably won't come with Windows 7."
It was reported the S121 has a 1.33 GHz Atom processor, though little else is know.
