Nvidia debuts $192 Tegra K1 dev kit

Nvidia has debuted the Jetson TK1 DevKit.

Powered by the company’s next-gen Tegra K1 SoC (ARM Cortex-A15 4-Plus-1 quad-core processor), the kit is packed with Kepler graphics, 192 Nvidia CUDA cores, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of eMMC storage.

The computer-on-a-board also features:

  • Half mini-PCIE slot
  • Gigabite Ethernet
  • SD card connector
  • HDMI port
  • Mic and Line jacks
  • 1 micro USB 2.0 port
  • 1 USB 3.0 port
  • SATA data port
  • 4MByte boot flash

As Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, Nvidia’s board is targeted at hardware and software developers, offering full support for the company’s CUDA 6.0 dev tool suite.

“The idea is to provide tools for app developers to create software that can take advantage of the Tegra K1′s features,” Linder explained.

“But the Jetson TK1 also happens to be the first device to ship with a Tegra K1 chip. For $192, it’s kind of tempting to pick one up for use as an Android-powered desktop PC or media center.”

It should also be noted that is Nvidia is reportedly planning to launch another Tegra K1 chip kit equipped with an ARMv8 64-bit processor.
