Toshiba touts Ultra HD laptop display

1080p may have become the de-facto (minimum) laptop display in recent years, although Toshiba is apparently looking to shake-up the status quo with its Satellite P50t.

The new laptop boasts a 15.6 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel display, which the company rates as Ultra HD.

Additional features include an Intel Core i7 Haswell processor, AMD Radeon R9 M265X GPU loaded 2GB of VRAM, 1TB hard drive, up to 16GB of RAM, Harman Kardon speakers, a Blu-ray drive, up to 5 hours of battery life, four USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, SD card slots, 802.11ac WiFi, Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.0.

The laptop, which weighs in at 4.9 pounds and 1.1 inches thick, is somewhat larger than similar devices on the market today.

As Liliputing’s Brad Linder notes, the Satellite P50t is too thick to count as an Ultrabook and lacks a Solid State Drive (SSD).

“[Nevertheless], Toshiba isn’t the only company working on a 15 inch notebook with a 4K Ultra HD display. Asus is also apparently working on a Zenbook NX500 laptop with an aluminum case and Bang & Olufsen audio,” said Linder.

“Samsung, Lenovo and others also offer a number of laptops with only slightly less impressive 3200 x 1800 pixel displays.”
