Honda has debuted an upgraded version of its ASIMO humanoid robot.
The latest iteration of the ‘bot is equipped with autonomous behavior control technology, allowing it to adapt to various scenarios and move without an operator.
Indeed, ASIMO analyzes inputs from multiple sensors - equivalent to the visual, auditory, and tactile senses of a human being - to understand its environment and avoid colliding with people or objects.
Moreover, advanced coordination between visual and auditory sensors enables ASIMO to simultaneously identify a face and voice, which helps the ‘bot recognize multiple people who are talking at the same time.
The new ASIMO also features a highly functional compact multi-fingered hand, with a tactile and force sensor embedded on the palm and in each finger.
Combined with object recognition technology based on visual and tactile senses, this multi-fingered hand allows the all-new ASIMO to perform tasks with dexterity, such as picking up a glass bottle and twisting off the cap, or holding a soft paper cup to pour a liquid without squishing it.
