JooJoo tablet runs Windows 7

A software modder known as DarkDavy has successfully loaded Microsoft Windows 7 onto the Linux-based JooJoo web tablet.

The device - manufactured by Fusion Garage - features some fairly respectable hardware specs, including a 12.1 inch (1366 x 768 pixel) display, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, Nvidia ION graphics, 1GB of RAM and a 4GB solid state disk.

However, the tablet has been criticized for its lackluster and stripped-down Linux UI, which was dubbed "underwhelming and unresponsive."

"While the accelerometer and 3G modem aren't currently supported, hackers have gotten the touchscreen to play nicely with Windows 7," explained Lilliputing's Brad Linder.

"[This] means you can use an on-screen keyboard to enter text, use any web browser you like and play 720p HD video [with] the media player of your choice. [Yes], it seems a heck of a lot more versatile than the JooJoo running [a] default custom Linux interface."
