Ultrathin category fails to grow
Major notebook vendor Acer lit out at HP and Dell for failing to back the ultrathin notebook category.
That's according to Digitimes, in a report that said chairman JT Wang blamed Dell and HP for not pushing the category hard.
Instead, Wang said HP and Dell are in a fierce price war over mainstream notebooks and that's denting the demand for ultrathin notebooks - they're the machines that people really want, the report said.
And because Dell and HP are not focusing strongly enough on the ultrathin sector, Wang is concerned that Intel might think demand for these notebooks is weak. Really, according to the report, consumer demand for the devices is strong.
Digitimes reports Wang saying that ultrathin notebooks will account for 30 percent of its total notebook shipments in 2010.
