HP bangs together printers and PCs
Giant multinational Hewlett Packard will merge the company's PC unit and printer unit, the Wall Street Journal reports.
According to the newspaper, the final decision rests with CEO Mark Hurd but no date for the shuffle is yet available.
There's also no information on how the decision will affect HP's channels to market. HP is notorious for shifting the goalposts and altering terms and conditions on a regular basis.
The Journal says that the balance of power has shifted inside HP, and sales of printers and ink aren't what they used to be. The PC division, on the other hand, has waxed strongly over the last few years and toppled Dell from its former pole position.
HP's printer division is still the most profitable in its portfolio. The Wall Street Journal story is here (subscription needed).
