Chicago (IL) - If you were hoping to show your love by getting your love one the new 17-inch MacBook Pros for Valentine's Day, Apple might just have broken your heart as the company pushed shipments out until after February 19. No reasons were given for the delay though some sources report some component makers in the Apple's supply chain were unable to meet the company's tight schedule.

The 17-inch MacBook Pro unveiled at the MacWorld Expo last month brought the remaining member of the Mac notebook family in line with the new unibody enclosure and hardware improvements seen in high-end 15-inch unibody MacBook - namely faster Core 2 Duo processors, a faster front-side bus and the use of both discreet and integrated Nvidia graphics. Customers who ordered the $2,799 system originally scheduled for shipment around end of January are now seeing their orders delayed until after February 19.

The company emailed select customers who had ordered their notebook right following the MacWorld announcement, explaining that "wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer than we projected. As a result, we will be unable to ship your 17-inch MacBook Pro until February 19, 2009." Before the change, Apple's online store stated a 7-10 day delivery for the system. No further explanation for the delay was provided but some online reports claim that supply chain failed to deliver on time certain components necessary for the manufacturing of the notebook.

Apple is providing affected customers with the option of canceling their order. "If we do not hear from you before we ship the 17-inch MacBook Pro to you, we will assume that you have agreed to this shipment delay," wrote Apple in an email to customers. "In that event, a shipment notification with tracking information will be emailed to you as soon as your order is shipped."

Customers who would like to cancel their orders and get refunds can do so at Apple's online store or by calling 800-676-2775.
