Palo Alto (CA) - HP announced two new desktop PCs for the retail channel and a new color display that promise to have a smaller negative impact on the environment than regular PCs and displays: The HP Pavilion Verde Special Edition a6645f, the HP Pavilion Phoenix Special Edition a6655f desktop PCs as well as the 25.5” HP w2558hc Vivid Color Display should all be in stores early November.

The HP Pavilion Verde Special Edition a6645f and HP Pavilion Phoenix Special Edition a6655f desktop PCs include AMD dual-core and quad-core processors and come packaged in 100% recyclable packaging. According to the manufacturer, both are Energy Star certified meet the standards for Silver registration in the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool. HP claims that the PCs should provide up to 45% energy savings compared to PCs not running any power management software. HP did not provide power consumption estimates in absolute numbers.

The special edition PCs come with 5 GB of RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium and a LightScribe dual-layer DVD burner that.

The Verde Special Edition includes an Athlon X2 4850e dual-core processor (2.5 GHz) and a 500GB hard drive. The Phoenix model runs on a Phenom X4 9150e quad-core CPU (1.8 GHz) and a 640 GB hard drive.

Both PCs come with custom designs on their cases - the Verde with a “nature-inspired pattern on the chassis” and the Phoenix with a “stunning design symbolizing the mythical phoenix.” Pricing is set at $579 for the Verde and at $659 for the Phoenix.

The new 25.5” screen is also Energy Star compliant and includes, according to HP, power saving features. The w2558hc can display slideshows even if the PC is turned off (since it includes a 15-in-1 memory card reader), offers built-in speakers and USB ports.

The display will sell for $599 MSRP.
