China wants to appoint a porn Czar

An alliance of Chinese internet companies is looking to clean up its act and it wants to enlist the help of a porn specialist. The appraiser will be tasked with reviewing websites, looking for pornographic content, then rating and managing the blue sites.

It seems like a pretty nice position and it pays well, too. The salary is 200,000 yuan, close to $32,400 - excellent by Chinese standards. There is no shortage of candidates. China Daily reports the alliance has already received upwards of 5,000 resumes, quickly becoming the most popular position sought in the alliance. The ad was forwarded 130,000 times and around 300,000 people left messages requesting further information.

Applicants need to be able to identify obscenity and pornography online and have good knowledge of foreign laws and languages. They will then rate the smut and decide whether it’s just a bit naughty or too vulgar for China’s youth.

"As we find vulgar information and safety risks on websites, we'll remind web users with an online label, while for those that we're not sure about, we'll ask law school professors and government administrators for help," said Yang Jilong, the alliance's human resources chief.

The porn rating office is still not up and running, but it should be formally established next month. The alliance already has five employees to take care of selection work but is looking for a team leader.
