Acer’s "floating" AIO PCs run Windows 8

Acer has introduced a pair of new all-in-one computers designed specifically to run Windows 8.

The Aspire 7600U and 5600U are extremely slim, with a profile of 1.4-inches and a semi-transparent enclosure designed to make the computers appear as if they are floating.

The primary difference between the two models? The display – with the 5600U boasting a 23-inch screen and the 7600U measuring 27-inches. As expected, both machines are available with 10-point capacitive touch technology and gesture recognition. The AIOs also feature Acer AlwaysConnect designed to get users online faster, while Instant On resum clocks in at just 1.5 seconds. Both models offer full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 with 5 ms response times.

The 7600U is powered by a 3.1 GHz Intel Core i5-3210M processor paired with 8 GB of RAM. It also boasts a discrete Nvidia GT 640M GPU along with an integrated Blu-ray drive. The 5600U is equipped with the same processor, up to 8 GB of RAM, and a SuperMulti optical drive. Both machines can be fitted with up to 1 TB of storage space and offer integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth HDMI output/input, as well as a pair of USB 3.0 ports.

Pricing for the 7600U starts at $1899 with availability set for late March. The 5600U will be available on October 26, with pricing starting at $1149 including touch technology or $999.99 without.

It should be noted that Acer competitor Vizio also recently debuted its lineup of Windows 8 AIO PCs with touch support.
